We are all aware of the current and growing concerns about sustainability, climate change, the environment, carbon emissions, our own ecological footprint and local and the global impact.
We want to stop using plastic bags, drive less and do more to be sustainable and reduce our effect on the earth, but what’s the first step?
What effect do you currently have? What are carbon offsets? Can you benefit financially? Who provides green services & products? Can I make a positive contribution to the social and environmental aspects of our living and working lives?
These are just some of the common questions asked.

> Geoff moderates PCA Future Forecast 2009
The first Future Directions event of 2009 saw a large turn out; in excess of 170, young property professionals attended the event at CitiClub to hear a panel discussion around the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 and future forecasts of 2009 for the property sector.
The event, moderated by Geoff Gourley, lead panel members Andrew Ballantyne - Head of Research for Victoria and the National Head of Office research at Jones Lang LaSalle, Carl Schibrowski - Senior Development Manager with Macquarie Capital Advisers and Ross Hamilton who has been actively involved in the real estate industry for in excess of 15 years through the evening.
The panel discussion was centered on a number of questions such as;
-
Why are some developments gaining finance approval while others are struggling to gain finance?,
-
Is the stimulus package a positive step for the property sector?,
-
What impact will RuddBank have on the property sector?,
-
What are your forecast predictions for the next 6 and next 12 months?
The audience asked a number of questions following the event and discussions continued over drinks and finger food till late in the night.
The large attendance demonstrated the level of concern within the property sector, there was not a lot of positivism to take away, the ‘New Reality’ is something which is impacting the property sector and us all.
We aim to present an up date around this topic later in 2009 to see what actually happened in the first 6 months and what lay ahead for the remainder of 2009.

> RMIT Global Sustainability Dialogue
February 12 2009
Geoff was invited to attend the RMIT Global Sustainability Dialogue last night in
Melbourne.
What an amazing opportunity the event provided to hear so many likeminded sustainability leaders sharing their thoughts, knowledge, wisdom and experiences.
Hosted by Caroline Bayliss, Larissa Brown, facilitated by Jason Clarke and others the event was attended by some of Victorias leading sustainability thinkers, we were also lucky enough to be host to 20 visiting alumni form the Blekinge Institute of Technology,
Sweden, accompanied by
Goran Broman.
I personally, was in awe of the diverse skills, intellect and passion that was displayed by all that participated.
There were a great number of connections made during the dialogue and more after a few beers, frantic card swapping and the exchanging of email and phone numbers, all steps toward connecting globally, leading green thinkers.
Keep an eye out for further updates about the progress of social dialogues within sustainability networks.

> Hear Geoff speak about 'Sustainable Business Thinking'
2009 Convergence | Breakthrough: From Recession to Sustainability
As we face a looming financial crisis, what are the threats and opportunities to social and environmental movements?
How do we break the 'business as usual' model? How do we 'bail out' the planet?
This convergence seeks to bring together people from across
Melbourne to start to develop a pathway through the recession to a sustainable economy. What would this look like and how we would we get there? What about livelihood and good work, what about community resilience? What about our place in the world? How do we respond effectively to the looming crisis of climate change? And what does this mean for the social and environmental movements in the short term?
This one day forum will look at the opportunities and threats connected to the economic downturn – political, financial, cultural. We will look at hope and fear (and how we can speak in frames not of opposition but of hope and determination), sketch out pathways to a better future, and how we could get to a safe climate economy in 10 years.
We will also consider how we could make
Melbourne a sustainable city – one that is compact, people friendly, based on public transport, renewable energy, biodiversity and food production.
